Colorado Wildflower Tour July 24-27 2009

Want to get into prime wildflower country, but not quite sure how to put it all together? Want the freedom to pursue the best of the bloom? Want to be in special locations at best light? Looking for a personal guided experience with a small group? Come join me for a 3 day intensive 4x4 wildflower get-a-way deep in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. Locations may include American Basin, Stony Pass, Indian Trail Ridge, and others. We will meet Friday afternoon July 24th in Silverton, CO to begin our backcountry adventure. We will photograph all day Saturday, Sunday, and end Monday the 27th at last light, or when everyone is too tired to go any more, whichever comes first.
This will be an intensive adventure, from first to last light and everything in between. Be prepared to camp, either in your vehicle or by tent. Camping on site gives us much more flexibility to be there when the light is best, and maybe even a nap when the sun is high overhead. Most rental SUVs can make these high passes and roads, but your rental arrangements will be your responsibility. I will be glad to discuss options with you. Meals will be a matter of group decision and personal preference, and are not included in the tuition price. We may grill in the evening, weather permitting. As the launch date draws closer we will make firm arrangements for meeting location. Plan to camp on site the first night to be in place for early light on the first shooting day.
BE AWARE!! Shooting AND sleeping locations are in the 11,000 -12,500 foot elevations. Two to three days of acclimation with sleeping elevations of 8,500 -9,000 feet or higher are essential to reduce the chances of altitude sickness. I will be happy to offer suggestions and possibly meet with you while I am scouting and shooting prior to our meeting time. A good level of personal fitness is essential to an enjoyable experience. If you have a heart condition, discuss this trip with your personal physician. Exertion levels will not be extreme on most hikes, but some of the better locations do call for uphill trudges. The group will pick and choose from locations that are in good condition at the time of our visit.
